Tara Marciniak

I started skating at age 7 during free skating lessons at the outdoor rink
where I was introduced to the Timberlines. I skated in my first
competition at age 11 in the first Badger State Games and competed until
I graduated high school in competitions such as Ladybug, WIM, Marquette
and BSG. Besides skating in Wausau my mom drove my two sisters and me
to Eau Claire for three years every Saturday for lessons. I also
trained in the summer at Ohio State University and Indiana as well as
other summer skating camps in Wisconsin. I began coaching my sister
after high school as a favor to my mom and here I am – still coaching!
Besides coaching and teaching off-ice conditioning classes, I earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion/Wellness from the
UW-Stevens Point. I teach Kinesiology classes at the Health Touch Spa
School of Massage and do massage on the side. I am married to Paul and
have two children, Elizabeth, age 5, and Ean, age 3. My favorite and
most rewarding job is staying at home with my children and being able to
watch them grow up!
For fun and stress release, I enjoy running. This year, I completed
several races including the Fox Cities Half Marathon! Besides running,
my hobbies are my jobs (skating, off-ice classes, massage and kids) and
I love all of them!

Brittyni Carlson

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Brittyni Carlson (yes
that is how you spell it, it’s not a typo). I grew up in the small town
of Marathon and graduated from Marathon High School this year. I live
with my parents and my only sibling, my older brother. We also share
the house with our lovable dog, very vocal bird, and rapidly growing
turtle.
I
came to the Timberline Figure Skating Club 15 years ago, and have been
skating with them ever since. Over my years of skating I have been
fortunate enough to have studied choreography with Nina Petrinko
(Olympic choreographer), train at the International Training Center of
Connecticut, and train at the Mariposa Seminar at Sports Quest Skating
Academy with Doug Leigh and Neil Young (coach of four Olympic
Champions). I have traveled to Missouri twice and Connecticut once to
compete in the State Games of America where I received gold, silver, and
bronze medals. I have also traveled to Texas to compete in the National
Showcase competition where I became the Junior Ladies Entertainment
Champion and Junior Ladies Interpretive Silver medalist. That same
year, 2004, I was also the Skate Le Voyageur Artistic Recall Champion.
I found that one of the best things about competing is not only the
thrill of skating in front of a live audience, but it gives a great
excuse to visit new places.
Skating has always been a large portion of my life but when I’m not
skating I enjoy working out, running, rollerblading, scrapbooking,
writing and graphic design. In anything I do whether it’s skating or
writing I live by the words “You never fail until you stop trying”

Christine Thorp
Christine was born and grew up in Stevens Point, WI. Christine
is married to a great husband named Matt. She is one of three
sisters and she loves her cats. She states that she has Chris
Penno to thank for recognizing her talent and bringing her to
Timberline. Christine was one of the first skaters in the area to
pass a MIF test, way back when Moves were first created.
In the early years of Christine's coaching career, she attended many
clinics because she recognized the importance of solidifying her
teaching techniques. Peter Dunfield, Brian Wright, Frank Carroll
and Pieter Kollen were powerful early influences. Later Kathy
Casey, Christy Ness and Robin Wagner helped fine tune her technique
while contributing to her philosophy of coaching. |
