Programs Offered by Timberline

Basic Skills: This is class type program where the ice time and coaching fees are packaged for the skaters to learn the nuts and bolts of skating. Skaters work on the Skate with U.S. badges covering basic skating skills and the freestyle elements.

Advanced Basic Skills: This is a group instruction program where the ice time and coaching fees are packaged. Usually the skaters are at Basic 4 or higher and are considering individual lessons but not quite ready or financially able to make the leap. A portion of the lesson time is spent o n working on the Basic skills or Freestyle badges and skaters are introduced to the Moves in the Field an d Dance elements based on their level of skill. The coaches will also cover topics such as supplemental off ice training, synchronized skating and the Artistry on Ice badges.  Skaters who have just started private lessons may be encouraged by their coach to continue in the advanced program as the skater is supervised and told what to practice.

MIF & Dance: Ice time and co aching fees are included and the skills covered in this class are the elements in the low Moves in the Field tests and the Skate with U.S. Dance Badges or the first 6 USFS Dance tests. The skaters may be combined with the higher level advanced skaters.  This class is recommended for Skaters who would like to pursue the more advanced testing structure, or are participating on a Synchro team, or who have just begun private lessons and would like to maximize their private coaching time for working on programs.

Crossovers:  This is a combination of MIF & Dance group lessons and skaters are given an opportunity to receive private instruction from the coaches. The private lesson is included in the package. Skaters may be offered a choice of coaches but this is not guaranteed.  Skaters are taught how to work on skills on their own and may begin working on Freestyle and compulsory programs for tests or competitions. This is also where skaters will learn the etiquette needed to participate in the program ice   sessions.

Program Ice:  This is a contract just to buy ice time for private lessons and practice of advanced skating skills. Coaching fees and or lessons are not included and should be arranged with a particular coach before you sign up for the ice time.

Synchronized Skating:  This is a team sport with the goal of competing in several competitions each year. Skaters must meet skill or testing requirements.  Cost of the ice time, coaching fees, costumes and competition fees are divided by the skaters participating on the team.

Clinics:  Several times a year the Club will bring in a guest coach to work on specific advanced skills such as double and triple jump technique, choreography and style, spins, MIF's etc. Skaters who participate in the clinic pay for this persons regular coaching fees, transportation, food and lodging. Ice time is usually extra.

Note: Parents who are not sure which program their child should participate in should talk to their current coach or a Basic skills committee member.
